History

The area of Ksar Seghir was occupied from the first century BC. BC and during the Roman period and witnessed by the remains of a salting factory. The information on the site during the High Middle Ages is very sober. It appears that in 708-709 a fortress which bore the name of Ksar Mesmouda, existed at the current location of this citadel. Under the Idrissids, it was part of the principality of al Kacem Ibn Idriss II.
